The Village Movement is an innovative group of organizations that has emerged in the last decade in the field of support services for community-dwelling older adults. The village movement is one of the most viable options to let our society cope with the upcoming “Aging Revolution” and learn to Age at Home but not Alone.
A Proven Model
The first Village was started in the Beacon Hill area of Boston in 2001 by local seniors who saw a need to connect with their neighbors and provide support and social interaction. Beacon Hill, proved that seniors wanted to get together around local villages, help each other and be part of an active community of seniors. A model so promising, that after a few years 200 villages have sprung all across the nation and many others are in the works.
A Modern and Caring Village
Today, various villages across the nation, including our Village Central, are providing a full array of services including transportation assistance, light home maintenance services, technical assistance, social and cultural events and much more.
